Maxxis Reaver 700x45c Gravel Tyre – HYPR-X Compound, EXO, Tubeless Ready

The Reaver is the fast end of the Maxxis gravel range. Where the Rambler is built for mixed conditions and deeper gravel, the Reaver is built for speed on hardpack, dust and loose-over-firm. If you race, or you just want to hold a higher average on dry gravel, this is the one to look at.

This version runs Maxxis' HYPR-X compound, which blends their HYPR road rubber with the MaxxSpeed mountain compound. Maxxis rate it at 25% lower rolling resistance and 19% better cornering grip than the dual compound version it replaced. It also uses a tougher nylon in the 120 TPI casing, which improves puncture resistance through the tread without adding weight or dulling the ride.

Which Reaver should you buy?

We stock both, at the same price. The HYPR-X in 700x45c is the faster and grippier of the two, and the extra volume is more forgiving when the surface turns rough. The Dual Compound in 700x40c is lighter at 430g and narrower, which suits tighter frame clearances. Since they cost the same, the HYPR-X is the upgrade. Choose the Dual Compound if you specifically need a 40c.

Where the Reaver sits in our gravel range

We stock four gravel treads. The Receptor is a semi-slick for riding that's mostly tarmac. The Reaver is the fast choice for dry, hardpacked gravel. The Rambler is the all-rounder when conditions are mixed or the gravel gets deep. The Ravager is the most aggressive, for mud and soft ground.

EXO sidewall protection

A cut and abrasion resistant fabric woven into the sidewalls. It's light and flexible enough not to deaden the ride, and worth having on rocky ground where a sidewall cut is the most likely thing to end your day.

Running tubeless

Going tubeless lets you drop pressure for more grip, lowers rolling resistance compared with a tubed setup, and removes pinch flats entirely. Use liquid sealant only in tubeless ready, tubeless road or tubular tyres. Sealant in any other Maxxis tyre voids the warranty.
