Maxxis Reaver 700x40c Gravel Tyre – Dual Compound, EXO, Tubeless Ready

The Reaver is the fast end of the Maxxis gravel range. Where the Rambler is built for mixed conditions and deeper gravel, the Reaver is built for speed on hardpack, dust and loose-over-firm. At 430g in 700x40c, it's the lighter of the two Reavers we stock.

It uses Maxxis' Dual Compound tread, with a harder rubber through the centre to keep rolling resistance low and a softer compound on the shoulders for grip when you lean it over. The 120 TPI folding casing carries EXO protection on the sidewalls.

Which Reaver should you buy?

We stock both, at the same price. This Dual Compound version in 700x40c is the lighter and narrower of the two, which suits tighter frame clearances and riders who want the quickest-feeling option. The HYPR-X in 700x45c uses Maxxis' newer compound, which they rate at 25% lower rolling resistance and 19% better cornering grip, and the extra volume is more forgiving on rough ground. Choose this one if you need a 40c or prefer the narrower profile.

Where the Reaver sits in our gravel range

We stock four gravel treads. The Receptor is a semi-slick for riding that's mostly tarmac. The Reaver is the fast choice for dry, hardpacked gravel. The Rambler is the all-rounder when conditions are mixed or the gravel gets deep. The Ravager is the most aggressive, for mud and soft ground.

EXO sidewall protection

Cut and abrasion resistant fabric woven into the sidewall. Light and flexible enough that it doesn't deaden the ride, and the thing standing between a sharp flint and a long walk home.

Running tubeless

Tubeless lets you run lower pressures for grip, rolls faster than a tubed setup, and does away with pinch flats. Sealant should only go in tubeless ready, tubeless road or tubular tyres. Using it in any other Maxxis tyre will void the warranty.
