Maxxis Ravager 700x40c Gravel Tyre – Dual Compound, SilkShield, Tubeless Ready

The Ravager is the most aggressive tyre in the Maxxis gravel range, and the one to reach for when the ground turns soft. Square-edged centre knobs give you something to push against when climbing and braking on loose dust, and the oversized cornering blocks are spaced widely enough that mud clears instead of packing solid.

It's the tyre for riders taking a gravel bike somewhere a gravel bike arguably shouldn't go — winter bridleways, churned farm tracks, and the sort of ground where a faster tread simply slides.

Where the Ravager sits in our gravel range

We stock four gravel treads. The Ravager is the most aggressive of them, for mud and genuinely soft ground. The Rambler is the all-rounder for mixed conditions and deeper gravel. The Reaver is the fast choice on dry, hardpacked surfaces. The Receptor is a semi-slick for riding that's mostly tarmac.

SilkShield protection

SilkShield wraps from bead to bead rather than sitting under the tread alone, so the sidewalls are protected as well as the contact strip. On the sort of ground this tyre is built for — rutted, flinty, full of buried surprises — that coverage is the difference between finishing a ride and walking back.

Dual Compound

A harder rubber through the centre keeps rolling resistance in check despite the aggressive tread, with a softer compound on the shoulders so the cornering knobs actually grip when you lean the bike into a muddy corner.

Running tubeless

Tubeless matters more on a tyre like this than on any other in the range, because soft ground is where you most want to run low pressures. Dropping pressure lets the knobs dig in, and without a tube there's no pinch flat waiting for you. Sealant should only go in tubeless ready, tubeless road or tubular tyres. Using it in any other Maxxis tyre will void the warranty.
