Maxxis Rambler Tanwall Gravel Tyre – 700x38c & 50c, Carbon Bead, EXO, Tubeless

The Rambler is the most versatile tyre in the Maxxis gravel range, and the one to pick when conditions aren't predictable. Tightly packed centre knobs are ramped so it still rolls well on tarmac and hardpack, while the cornering knobs sit further apart to bite when the surface turns loose or soft.

This is the light version. A carbon fibre folding bead and EXO sidewall protection bring it down to 439g in 700x38c, and the tan sidewalls suit a classic build.

Which Rambler should you buy?

We stock two. This Tanwall EXO version is the lighter of the two at 439g in 700x38c, against 478g for the SilkShield, and it's the one to choose if you want the tan wall look. The SilkShield version is black, comes in three widths including a 45c, and uses bead-to-bead puncture protection rather than EXO, so it's the tougher choice for flinty lanes. Go Tanwall for weight and looks, SilkShield for durability and more size options.

Where the Rambler sits in our gravel range

We stock four gravel treads. The Rambler is the all-rounder, and the best choice when conditions are mixed or the gravel gets deep. The Receptor is a semi-slick for mostly-tarmac riding. The Reaver is faster on dry, hardpacked gravel. The Ravager is more aggressive again, for mud and genuinely soft ground.

EXO sidewall protection

A cut and abrasion resistant fabric woven into the sidewalls. Light and flexible enough that it doesn't deaden the ride, and worth having anywhere a sharp stone might find your sidewall.

Dual Compound

A harder rubber through the centre keeps rolling resistance low, with a softer compound on the shoulders for grip when you lean the bike over.

Running tubeless

Tubeless lets you run lower pressures for grip, rolls faster than a tubed setup, and does away with pinch flats. Sealant should only go in tubeless ready, tubeless road or tubular tyres. Using it in any other Maxxis tyre will void the warranty.
